Reston Lions Install New Officers!
As of July 1st, we now have new officers in the Reston Lions Club. Lions Past District Council Chair, Shirley Wilson, fourth from left in the picture, a member of the Bailey's Cross Roads Host Lions Club, installed new officers of the Reston Lions Club at the Hidden Valley Country Club in Reston on Wednesday evening on June 17. The new president is Anne Ryan second from left. The retiring president is Don Leas, seventh from left. Others in the picture are new officers of the club.
The Herndon Community Leo Club, which is sponsored by the Reston Lions Club, installed its new officers at an installation banquet held at the Hidden Creek Country Club on Wednesday evening, June 17. Installation ceremonies were conducted by Past District Council Chair, Shirley Wilson, a member of the Bailey's Cross Roads Host Lions Club. Leo clubs are sponsored by local Lions clubs and membership is open to middle and high school student age young people. Leo clubs provide its members with opportunities to develop leadership qualities and to complete community projects in a supervised and structured environment. Anne Ryan, Reston Lions Club President, is the Herndon Leo Club Advisor. The Herndon Leo Club members will be speaking at a lecture and discussion about Human Trafficking on 1/24 12 1:30pm at the Lake Anne Community Center, Reston, VA. The members have a unique experience as young females from Nepal where a significant amount of trafficking occurs. They are partnering with AAUW (American Association of University Women), who is hosting the event. Please come out to support the Leo Club.
Ryan Sill, the 2012 Reston James A. Bland Music Competition Vocalist Winner and 2011 James A. Bland Music Competition 3rd place Vocalist, competed on 12/9 to make it into a Wildcard spot as a Finalist on 'The Voice.' See the following Link to the Video.

Herndon Community Leos Organize Food Drive
The LEO Club is doing a food drive for Thanksgiving. They are donating items to Grace Ministries at Floris Methodist Church in Herndon (they do a monthly food distribution). If you would like to donate non-perishable, not expired items, please get them to me by December 23. Contact email@example.com for drop-off location.
District Governor James Ryan, a member of the Reston Lions Club, leads representatives attending the Fall Conference for Virginia Lions of District 24-A held at the Sheraton Reston Hotel, 11810 Sunrise Valley Drive, Reston, on Friday and Saturday, October 17 and 18. Over 200 attended. Various breakout sessions were held pertaining to sight, hearing and environmental programs and other Lions club activities. Immediate Past International Lions President, Barry Palmer from Australia was the main speaker for the two day conference.
There are 6 districts for Lions Clubs in Virginia. District 24-A covers 14 counties and independent cities in northeastern Virginia and consists of 60 clubs and 1,650 members. James Ryan of Herndon was elected District Governor at the Virginia State Lions Club convention held in May. Ryan is a past president of the Reston Lions Club and has been a Lions Club member for 27 years. His duties as District Governor includes assisting member clubs in setting objectives for projects and recruiting new members and following with them for completion and representing the District on the State, National and International level.
Reston Lions has been honored by the NOVA Brewfest again this year as provider of Parking direction and services at the upcoming Northern Virginia Brewfest held at Bull Run in Manassas, VA the weekend of Oct 17-19th. Reston Lions earns money from providing these services; Monies will be put to our local charity work. See http://www.novabrewfest.com/ for information on the coming event and for Tickets. Lake Anne Plaza, Reston, VA on Saturdays, 7:30am to Noon, we hand out Balloons, inspire new Lions recruits and sell peanuts to raise money for serving our community initiatives.
We also collect Eyeglasses for the NOVA Eyeglass recycling center. Other donations accepted include Box Tops for Education, Soup labels for Education which are collected and sent to Dogwood Elementary School, Reston, VA. Our fundraising pricing is listed here.
The Virginia Bland Music Scholarship Competition has picked the 2015 District-Level Chairs. If you are interested in more information about the 2015 competition that is right around the corner, visit the website www.blandfoundation.org to get up-to-date contact information for your district. Reston Lions, as part of district 24-A plans to hold our competition in February 2015. More information to come, so stay tuned!
The Reston Lions supplied a wonderful Coloring book station at the Reston MultiCultural Festival on Saturday the 27th, 2014. Many children and parents stopped by to talk Lions and spend quality time with crayon and paper.
