The Reston Lions Club is a Non-Profit 501c(3) member service organization dedicated to volunteering and service. We are a member organization of Lions Clubs International, the largest service organization in the world with 1.4 million members in 47,000 clubs in 200 countries. Since 1967 when the Reston Lions Club was chartered, we have been helping the communities of Reston, Herndon and Great Falls. Our volunteers come from all backgrounds of life, from High school students, working professionals, and retirees we have a wide range of members that represent the community we serve.
For over 50 years we have been bringing the Lions motto of " We Serve" to support various projects and programs in the community including Reston Association, The Town of Herndon, FISH, and Cornerstones to name a few.
One way we serve is by providing free screenings to schools, Churches, Health Fairs and other organizations for both sight and hearing prevention and or detection. From our portable sight SPOT screening to our Sight and Hearing van we can cater to any size organization and event to provide these free services.
To help support these programs we do fundraising in the community like our annual Poker Tournament, Citrus sale and other events. All funds raised from the public go back into the local communities of Reston, Herndon and Great Falls. Please take a look around and see what Lions are doing in the community.
How We Serve
Every year, the Reston Lions Club conducts sight and hearing screening in local schools, churches, and community health fairs.
Food Baskets and Holiday Gifts
In December, the Reston Lions Club supports Herndon-Reston FISH's annual Holiday Food & Toy drive by obtaining and donating food and toys and helping FISH package and distribute them to hundreds of needy families.
In February, the Reston Lions Club conducts a music scholarship competition that enables talented local instrumentalists and vocalists to earn scholarships for college. Admission is free to the public.
Reston Lions Charities, Inc. is supported by fundraising activities such as the annual Citrus Sale, Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament, and participation in the Combined Federal Campaign and Amazon Smiles. The Reston Lions Club is supported by member dues. For a detailed picture of how we are financed and the purposes to which we put those funds, click HERE.
Annual Citrus Sale
Every December, usually the first weekend, we have a truckload of fresh Florida citrus brought up to Reston/Herndon as a fundraiser. Citrus can be ordered in advance to ensure the quantity and type of fruit you want is available or purchased from extra quantities we buy.
Our newest and most popular fundraiser is an all day poker tournament held at the Fairfax Elks Club complete with lunch, snacks and drinks. Prizes worth over $5,000 were awarded to the top 16 finishers in the tournament. This year's tournament will be held on October 26.
